Bonus Post, Tuesday, Feb. 3

ABC just announced today that it will reveal the cast for the eighth season of Dancing With the Stars as a series of interstitials during their regular programming on Sunday, Feb. 8.

Is this the most pathetic attempt to get folks to watch their entire night of programming or what?

The new season of Dancing With the Stars premieres on Monday, March 9, and I do like the show.  And rumors of Stevie Wonder joining the cast have been running rampant, with screams that he’s going to hurt himself or somebody else.  Never mind that blind people move around without help all the time.

Disney Channel has been making a big deal of some of their interstitial series for some time now and I seldom cover them because I can’t see telling folks to watch a whole night of one channel’s programming just to catch a five-minute program at the end of an hour.  Feh.  Please note that ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Company, which, duh, owns Disney Channel.

I can understand ABC wanting to make a bid deal out of the cast announcement.  But if I’ve got young kids, I’m not going to let them stay up to watch Desperate Housewives or Brother and Sisters (both excellent shows but not for the same audience as Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) just so they can see who’s in the new Dancing cast.

Like I said, it’s just a pathetic attempt to get us watching the whole night.  Wait, isn’t this February?  Sweeps month?  When advertising rates are set based on the ratings?  Well, that explains the pathetic.
