Nickelodeon just announced this morning that they are giving popular kids’ quiz show BrainSurge a second season of 40 new episodes to begin production this spring.
This is good news for young fans of the show and I know you’re out there, because a lot of you have left comments asking me to get you on the show.
Kids – If I could get you on BrainSurge, I totally would. But I can’t. I have no pull with the nice folks at Nickelodeon. You’re going to have to fight through the crowds. But why not look at it as a type of BrainSurge puzzle?
Keep in mind, the show is about brain teasers and logic puzzles – you don’t have to know a lot of facts, but you have to be able to figure things out. So, watch the kids on the show and figure out what they all have in common. I’ll give you a hint, it’s what makes them special.
Then, go to nickcontestants.com or email nickcontestants@gmail.com and tell them why you should be on the show – and it’s about what makes you special.
And for parents thinking the show is part of dumbing down our kids, I say nay. Given the world of digital information, basic fact retrieval is something we do with Google. Being able to observe and draw conclusions, that’s the real skill kids need to develop. Yes, we lose on the memory front, but we gain so much more in critical thinking skills.
Slime on!
