The most important point Tyson made in "The Pluto Files" is that this is an ongoing debate, and that there is no consensus among astronomers as to Pluto's status. This is important because too often, kids are taught that something is true just because someone in a position of authority said it is true. Pluto does not stop being a planet because four percent of the IAU voted that way. Kids need to be taught the controversy, presented with both sides of the issue, and given the chance to decide for themselves how to categorize Pluto and all dwarf planets.

[...] Finally, on Sunday, PBS’ Nature series is repeating probably the funniest nature doc I’ve ever seen, Is That Skunk? Check your local listings for times or you can see what I originally wrote about it here. [...]

Pity PBS stations schedule programming independently -- I'd have recommended Nova, myself. Last night's episode, Megabeasts' Sudden Death, was fascinating. But who knows when other stations will air it? Next week's offering is The Pluto Files, which I think is a repeat.

Catch up on the Simpsons -- their last episode would have demonstrated what curling is all about, at least when Maggie and Homer are involved. :)

Speaking of food -- You should check out a new debate-style PBS show which touches on corporate farming and its effect on our health.

Hosted by Bob Bowdon, the show is called "Two-Way Street," and it premieres tomorrow at 10 p.m. on KVCR, LA's PBS affiliate.

This week's episode, though, is not about food. Instead it focuses on the stirring drug decriminalization debate.
